Freeze Climate Change
a flashmob freeze and meditation
Sunday 11th August // London South Bank
A lovely day with a strong message – a big thank you to everyone who came along.
Check out some photos of the event taken by Nahum to the right >>
And an awesome video by Ian Burke here: promovideo.co.uk/wakeuplondon
Update: This event will take place rain or shine! We are also looking for a kind soul to take some photos/video footage of the event – if you’d be up for this, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Inspired, amongst others, by meditation flashmobs organised by Wake-up London, we are planning a flashmob freeze followed by a flashmob meditation on Sunday 11th August, at the South Bank in London (between the National Theatre and Gabriel’s Wharf).
The flashmob will be an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together and express peacefully and in silence their deep care for this world and their concern about the ongoing devastation of all that supports life.
If you feel inspired to get involved in the organisation of this event and/or maybe have some creative ideas, please contact email@example.com. Experience and expertise obviously welcome, but not necessary.
Or, if you simply feel inspired and want to come along to make your concern visible and connect with others, please do come and make sure to let your friends know (so that they can let their friends know, so that can let their friends know, so that they….). Each presence adds to the experience and empowers the impact – on ourselves, those witnessing us, and the planet. Also we would really invite you to make banners, however simple or creative, expressing one of two slogans: “Freeze Climate Change” or “Human Change not Climate Change”. We’d obviously like our message visible to those around who won’t know what’s going on!
If you are not able to join us, why not organise a similar event where you live? We would love to see this as the beginning of a long string of creative happenings, giving us an opportunity to connect and show publicly that we care.
What will happen?
(Our ideas so far – things may change slightly so keep checking back, or follow us on Facebook)
2:30pm a sound of a bell will mark the start of a 7-minute freeze: we simply stop in the movement we were in the middle of doing and freeze in stillness. It is fine to do some standing meditation if holding a position mid-movement for a longer period is too difficult.
2:37pm a bell will mark the end of the freeze and we continue moving like nothing unusual happened until…
2:45pm a bell marks the beginning of the sitting meditation (20-25 mins). We will gather in a loose circle close to each other. You may wish to bring something to sit on.
And where is it exactly?
In between Gabriel’s Wharf and National Theatre, Southbank, SE1 9PP, in the space directly above Thames Beach. Nearest stations: Southwark & Waterloo.
Important: Please do keep in mind that the flashmob although initiated by us is not an officially organised event. You will need to be responsible for your own health and safety.
